So the other night, not all that long ago, I typed the final word in Morph Class, part six.  In a way, this is a bit of a Thing for me, as this project that originally grew from a singular story last year turned into this massive thing.  And the word count for part six was in no less epic, clocking in around 8,100 words.  The estimates I was using was based off a 7,000 word story, and let me tell you that I was very surprised that the story ended up being so... wordy.  But in a way, this is actually a reduced count, as there are probably a section that could be expanded that I ended up not doing, because then I might have to do a SEVENTH part, which would probably be something short of ridiculous.  Maybe.  I don't know.

Point is that I am DONE and happy about that.  I let it sit for a few days, now I'm gonna be going through and cleaning it up a bit.  I may, which is to say probably, will re-write the ending.  So far it parallels/channels a story in the source, but it still feels a little... awkward.  I mean, it's done, but I'm not yet happy with it, and as a consequence I may not be able to finish it by the end of this month.  12 stories is still on, and I have a few other stories I could get to work writing when Morph Class is done, though I may take a day to bask a bit.  Hopefully I'll get some nice feedback, because I really hope that people like Morph Class.

You know, sometimes I just need to get out of my own way and write.  Seriously.  I was kinda in a groove last night, even though I had to force it a few times.  Ultimately, I got down 833 words which I'm pretty happy about.  I was aiming to put out 500, and I've far surpassed that.  However, I shan't rest on my laurels, though I intend to put out another chunk of words for Fluffy so I have something Zel can look at as an update.  More to the point, Morph Class is looking like it may get finished before the end of the month, which... would be interesting, because then there goes a great big concentration of creative energy.

Not that there aren't other places to put that energy.

pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
Hey there, chaps and chapesses.  Been a while since I've updated, but there's been some upheaval, not to mention having home Internet access discontinued.  To a degree, I'm still adjusting, especially since I've started college as well.  However, never fear!  The writing continues!  No, really.

1. I should be writing more, especially if I want to put out 12 stories by year's end.  That remains my goal, college notwithstanding, so hopefully I can pick up that pace.  Howevs, I HAVE put out a substantial chunk of Morph Class... I think I estimated it as about 43-61% complete last time.  Well, estimating that the chapter will end up between 5k and 7k words it's either about 70-98% done.  And really, I think those estimates are a bit too liberal.  If I were to estimate it just on feel, I'd probably say it's closer to the 70% mark, but even then I might put it at 60-65%.  There will probably be at least another 1000 words written before alls said and done, and while I'll probably miss my deadline of completing the story before the next time Gids has a birthday, this most definitely WILL be done before the end of the month.  Hell, it's going out before leap day.  That's my drop dead gate.  If not, then I've already failed to put out 12 stories this year, and I"m a bit of a month behind already!  So let's pick up the pace!

2. But part of the reason why I'm behind-ish on Morph Class is that I've started picking up more steam on the trade that I'm working on for Zel, which is tentatively titled Fluffy.  That may be an odd title, but if you know any of his works you'd know it's the name of the character, and it's a pretty appropriate title.  I'm probably going to stick with that, but between now and completion, things may change.  Who knows?  Anyway, I'm estimating that story to be about 4k, so that's about 58% done.  I've been updating Zel every now and then with the progress of the story, and so far he's been super happy with it.  Which is fantastic, especially since the picture he's doing for me is abso-fucking-lutely gorgeous.  I may post it to my own gallery, it's so goddamn good.  Most likely scraps, if anything, though.  Maybe I'm weird and/or a bad furry, but I like to promote my writing over all else, so if there is a picture posted to my account, it'll be in scraps.

3. Additionally, I've got to get going on writing since I'm also planning on posting a few reviews to Anthroview, and submitting at least one story to Tales of a Neon Phoenix.  Those are to mags that Summercat is running, a sort of quarterly mag for the fandom.  In it, I hope to put a review for Out of Position, an old book, and Royal Tail, a comic put out by Zel and fellow writer Tredain.  Regardless, the blog will get both, and they'll be the next two installments of Red Eye Reviews.  The story I plan on putting out is a slice of life between the stars of Mouse Porn, because... I dunno.  I just got that idea of writing something for them, and then the opportunity came up for it to be published.  It's basically going to be quick and dirty (big emphasis on dirty) and hopefully fun.  And if I come up with something else, then I will maybe submit that as well.  I just need to get some more new ideas.  I think I can come up with those.

Also, I'm going to make an effort to bring this blog back to a bit more prominence, with estimates rather than straight up word counts.  And, of course, more Random Story Escapades.

Okay a few things

1. I've been stuck on this ONE SCENE near the beginning of Morph Class for a good while.  Well, had been; I plowed through it and finally have it to my satisfaction.  It didn't help that the original scene I had in mind was... well, I was convinced to do it another way.  I'm not sure if the way I did it is necessarily BETTER (I'm still looking for the person that initially suggested it to look it over), but I think it's as good, and I'm continuing the story with that bit in mind.  I like it so far...

2. During said story, I've also dropped a huge chunk of words.  800 something one night, and 300 the next.  I'm feeling good about it, and I'm between 43 and 61% done with it, using the last two chapters as a guide for the general length of the story.

3. Though this does mean that I won't be able to release something in time for the end of January.  Well. maybe I'll be able to cut a teaser of Morph Class for the end, but it won't count as a Story.  I'm still planning on submitting 12 stories this year, college notwithstanding, so perhaps February will be an interesting month.  After all, I do have a few unfinished drafts that crave finishing!
pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
I haven't updated this in a while, but I have done some writing.  Over the last couple days, I've add 523 words to the D.Zel trade.  More importantly, he seems to like it.  I've also looked into rebirthing an old story, if only for a bit more visibility's sake, tentatively called Cat + Mouse, which is actually a bit of a misnomer to begin with.  Lion + Mouse would be even more accurate, but even so it doesn't describe anything about the plot so the title is nothing more than a placeholder.  I just put in 241 words there.  So not terribly unproductive for not updating.

I should update this more.

pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
This time, i worked on the DarkZel trade that I'm doing for him.  Nooooooot sure what title it yet.  But at present, I've worked my way up to 1039 words, which I think is about double what I had before...?  Actually, no it's not.  Don't let me lie to you guys, heh.  But yeah, I have made a good chunk of progress, and I do need to build up a bit of pre-writing to work from when it comes to Morph Class.  With this story, I'm more flying by the seat of my pants, but not too much.

Also, tomorrow with an article of sorts, and maybe a few Random Story Escapades.  Lots of writing in the near future, so stay tuned.  Night folks.
pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
Yep, writing on New Years!  I'm actually kinda proud of myself with what I did, as I was able to bang out a nice chunk of words (352) over the course of the day.  And for me, that's kinda rad.  After finishing part five, Morph Class has just kinda been on my mind of late, and because of the way the file is I couldn't provide a total as to make this update a bit cleaner, but still, it's good that I am updating this, period, I think.  Also, I would like to update this thing more, so hopefully I'll be doing more of that.  Also, more reading, so look for more Random Story Escapades!

EDIT - Wow, so I ended up writing a bit MORE and came up with some additional wordage, resulting in the chapter having about 1028 words in it as a whole.  Going by my average, this is about 1/5th of the chapter... though something tells me this one may be closer to part 4, which was 7k.
pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
I don't think I"ve updated this blog as much as I should have, but I can definitely say that it's been updated.  Morph Class part six is on the way, and I've added 356 words tonight, making it a total of 563 words to begin with.  A nice, solid start, I think.  And as for resolutions for the new year... yeah, fuck it.  I have plans, a bit more solid, because I don't really believe in resolutions.  I do plan, however, to release at least twelve stories for the upcoming year, one every month.  Fairly attainable, and perhaps even something I can exceed.

Here's hoping.
pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
Just finished it last night, and got in the final 507 words over the last two days.  Feelin' good about this.  Now I want to at least set the foundation for part six for January, where I'll probably write that in earnest.  Though even so, there are a few other writing projects to complete, namely the trade... but hey, they'll come.

I plan to post it before the end of the year.  Happy New Year folks!

Story: DarkZel Trade
Goal: something
Progress: 355 words
Total: 898 words

Awesome.  Got some stuff goin' on the D'zel trade, and I think it's motoring along.  Had a bit of an idea while I was off one of my many dog walks, and the idea is coming out pretty well.  Though honestly, I haven't pinned down the species of the protagonist/narrator (It's currently written in first person) and I'm wondering if I have a good feel for Fluffy yet.  Dunno, but time will tell and I can always prod the guy himself to see if it's at all accurate... I do strive for accuracy, after all.

pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
Mm... feelin' a bit good about it.  Got down 369 words in under a half hour with Morph Class, and getting into a chunk of story.  I think what I want to do is build a bit of a buffer between this part and the last one, which will be parts five and six respectively.  I think the part that I liked most about it is that I buckled down and concentrated, and was able to bang this out.  And it didn't feel particularly forced at all, though I did feel a need to edit a thing or two which had me staring at the screen a little bit.  I can get going when I really know what I want to happen.

Alright, next up I should probably pump out an update for the DarkZel trade.

On the writing front, posting stories to SF has been somewhat successful.  Got a slew of attention toward the stories, though people leaving comments seems to be anathema or something.  I know there are a bunch of people that comment or would comment, but they haven't quite gotten around to checking my stories on SF is pretty painless, which kinda makes me wanna use it more.  A little bit, anyway.  I may post more stories up there, but tomorrow.
pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
Alright, a few things.

Morph Class part 4 is officially edited and I posted that yesterday on FA.  Response has been... hm.  Not sure if tepid is the right word, but it's the word that I'm going to be using.  Then again, most writing outside of Kyell is going to be a bit underwhelming, and this is a long, long project.  Started this for Gids' birthday and now we're coming around to his upcoming birthday again, which is kinda ridiculous yet not considering how far I blew this story out of proportion.  I have to learn to control the scale of stuff for next time.

More importantly, I started working on DarkZel's story for the trade that we're doing.  Still feels a little weird that we're doing a trade, art for story, and as of yet I'm not sure what to ask of HIM, but that's beside the point.  Anyway, progress on that story is 573 words, which is pretty awesome.  Started it tonight, too, so I think that's a sign of positive things.  Concerns about this story, though?  Even though he suggested a species for the other character to play opposite his (and I'm probably going to grill him about his character's mannerisms and what not so I can portray it accurately), I kinda wanna do something away from just a normal house cat.  He did give me free reign in that department, but even so I'm not exactly sure what kind of species I would like to pit opposite a gray fox.   I am thinking a kind of cat, though... maybe a leopard or panther.  hm...

pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
Okay, so I haven't been diligent about writing.  Or updating.  But I have been doing both!  Still need to get back on that horse, so to speak.  Still like the idea of writing at least one more word than last time, so I just need to focus and do that!

Anyway, back to Morph Class.  So I've been reading this thing for a while and... well.  Out of curiosity (since I've been writing from a document that contained part three and what would become part four for a reasons that had to do with me not having my computer, long story), I decided to copy what would be part four into a separate document to see how long it was.

And it was 21 pages.  So... yeah, that's entirely too long.

So I went back, found a good break point, and now it's going to be part four, which means what I'm finishing up now is part five, which means that the part I'm going to write next will be part six.  Rockin'  I've already created the icons for those, so expect those to be posted to my FA in the next couple days.

I may post the stories to SF as well.
pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
Goal (last night): 200 words
Progress: 333 words

Alright.  Exceeding expectations is always a good thing, but I suppose it's poor that I felt I had to revise down my already paltry word count.  Hm... maybe someday soon I'll be able to write 1000 words a day with a bit more regularity.  I dunno, I know I can do it, and I'm going to have to be able to do it when I get to school.  I think I'm going to be writing multi-page papers due tomorrow or something, so perhaps it's more a matter of wrangling my focus. I did get into things a bit when I saw that I had surpassed my goal... but was so close to going over another number.  Hopefully I can keep doing that, I guess?  Words words words...
pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
Oh wow.  I haven't updated this thing in ten days, how incredibly shameful of me.  FEAR NOT for my one or so reader, I am indeed still writing.  Definitely definitely writing.  Actually, reminded of all the writing projects that I have tackled, not to mention the stuff that I've already done and... well, I've been pretty busy.  Well.  Not, but I have been doing some writing, which is the very point of this blog.

Yesterday was particularly productive, I think... not a whole lot of story writing done, but I did get a good chunk of writing done, to the tune of... well, 1,355 words, which is pretty rockin'.  A good chunk of that was in RP replies that come around every now and then.  But also, here's what I'm working most, now that the RP thing is out of the way.
  • Morph Class Yep yep yep.  Gotta be workin' on that. I'm still a little surprised that I managed to overthink such a simple idea into something novella length. I mean, hell, I might ask around to have it published but it's essentially a tome of fan fiction, and I don't think I could do that.  Still, to know that I'm capable of something like that (Granted over a very long period of time) is still something significant.
  • Trade with DarkZel - No title for this thing yet.  I do, at least, have an opening sentence in mind, so I should probably jot that down at the very least.  Not sure why he wanted to do a trade with me but OH WELL.
  • Will You Look At The Time - Ha ha, this is a.. weird story that I sorta had mulling around in my head until I felt utterly driven to write it and pumped out 400 words to begin with.  This is probably going to be the one I release first, ad it's... fairly simplistic, plus it's a Vince and Emma story.
The funny thing about Morph Class is that I know I'm SO VERY CLOSE to releasing another part, and then there would be part five and then that's it.  So it's close and that's super cool and I gotta make up an icon for that.  Probably similar to the others, but yeah, go check 'em out on my FA page.

In other news, I decided to check out SoFurry's beta site again, and this time upload something to it.  To be honest, it was not painful.  Perhaps I'll upload the remainder of my gallery there.. remains to be seen.

Though I didn't quite turn it up to 11, I did have a fairly good evening, even if I didn't end up starting as soon as I wanted to.

Goal: 500 words
Progress 309 words

Ugh, I'd write more, but I feel like I'm about to conk out. That, and the dog needs a walk, as ever.

Tomorrow is 11/11/11!  Maybe I'll write 111 words for the occasion.  Hopefully more.

Goal: 200 words
Progress: 264 words

Mm.. not bad.  Good that I wrote something since I didn't write anything in the last couple days, but hey, this is good.  Something is there, so there's that.  But hey, getting closer to the end of the scene... maybe I'll finish the scene tomorrow.

As for the scene I'm at... well, it's a good scene.  I dunno.  Considering the extent of the class (go read Morph Class, part one is here, so the following makes sense), having Nicodemus continue to be fair and mete out everything to the entire class is kinda tough.  But... hey.  I'm gettin' there!

pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
It's late, so I'll make this quick.

Goal: 250-300 words
Progress: 388 words

pyrostinger: They say the eye is the window to the soul (Default)
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah... it's been a while since I've updated this. Not as long as it could have been, but it has definitely been a while. 'bout 5-6 days in between updates, and about as long between finishing the story for FANG (now titled "The Other Apprentice") and just... well, picking up another writing project. At present, I'm doing Morph Class again, which is good. Added a nice chunk of 492 613 words to it, so I'm pretty happy about that (I initially had 492, but then I figured I could at least make it to 500. I wrote another paragraph and ended up at 594, and managed to finish the paragraph instead of starting another one).

With regard to FANG, well... My enthusiasm has continued to dampen regarding that story. I'm steeling myself for the inevitable rejection, because I'm looking at it and the finished product I sent to them is... well, nowhere near such. Thanks to Metassus, I've been made aware of a number of flaws in the text that, while it made for an enjoyable read, make it incomplete (Sidenote: I cannot thank Metassus enough for his insightful feedback. Seriously, dude, THANK YOU. And you there, reading this: why haven't you checked out his stuff already? Hop to it!). Perhaps I might be pleasantly surprised, but when/if the rejection comes, I'll probably post an edited version addressing his points.  Essentially, I will be or plan to be editing the story while I'm working on finishing up Morph Class for the end of December.  Or at least, that's the plan, and plans have a way of going awry sometimes.
